Why I’m Not A Birthday Person

I have this theory that there are two kinds of people in the world. You are either a birthday person, or you are not.

Some of us love being celebrated for our birthday and adore the extra attention, while others avoid it as much as possible.

A birthday person might throw a huge party and invite all of their friends. They wouldn’t be against extending the festivities for weeks or even an entire month.

If you are not a birthday person, you probably don’t like making a big fuss out of it and tend to shy away when people bring it up. Enjoying a small get together with friends would be more than enough celebration, or a nice dinner at home would work just as well.

I am personally not a birthday person and I especially don’t like surprises. I think it stems from a childhood surprise party that my parents threw for me.

My dad had taken me clothes shopping that day to get me out of the house while my mom got everything ready with my friends at home.

Pulling up to our house, I could see the lights off in the living room and immediately sensed what was going on with a feeling of panic. Looking back, as an insecure 7th grader I didn’t like the outfit I was wearing.

I was also embarrassed by the shopping bags I was holding from a local bargain store. Thinking about this now makes me laugh, because these days I love hunting for discounted treasures (TJ Maxx anyone?). But at that point in my life I was mortified.

I quickly fixed my hair, threw the shopping bags into some nearby bushes and took a deep breath. My dad opened the door, and I did my best to feign happy surprise as I walked in.

Being a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, it makes sense to me that I don’t like surprises. I crave the feeling of control because it is inherently safe. Since I associate the abuse as a time when I was completely out of control, I spent much of my life cultivating situations that are the exact opposite.

For example, if we were to meet somewhere for a meal, I would look at the restaurant’s website ahead of time so I could see how to dress, and also decide what to order.

As an adolescent I would study people’s energy to see if they felt safe to be around, which helped me hone my intuitive skills at an early age.

A desire for control is one of the reasons that I became a psychic intuitive. After all, my job involves intuitively understanding people and predicting the future.

Of course, the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has created an incredibly challenging time for all of us, even beyond the obvious and very serious health implications. Even if we take every possible precaution to be safe, we must accept the fact that we cannot control this situation.

As a color intuitive that interprets color energy, there is a color that has been bringing me much comfort lately. I want to share it with you in the hopes that it will also bring some positive energy to you at this specific time.

Since we are all spending more time at home, this is an absolutely perfect moment to incorporate a boost of silver into your day.

To me, silver is a color that embodies healthy home energy. Silver is protective and welcoming, a beautiful combination to experience in one’s living space.

When I see silver in someone’s aura, I know that they are wonderful at creating sacred space in their home. A “silver person” knows how to create a warm and inviting atmosphere that just feels nourishing.

Meditating on silver is a wonderful way to build its energy within you. You can visualize it with your eyes closed, or surround yourself with anything that has a silver-sheen to it. Clothing, jewelry, makeup, art, or even digital images can be used to boost silver energy.

The easiest way to build silver energy is by pouring some positive attention into your home. You could choose to go full Marie Kondo, but even the smallest gesture will activate silver energy. You could:
• Clean any part of your home
• Declutter your workspace.
• Organize a closet or dresser.
• Fix something in the house that needs attention, like tightening loose cabinet handles or oiling a squeaky door.
• Paint a wall
• Do some gardening

What you do is not important, as long as it is done with the intention of pouring love into your living space. I’d love to know what you tried in the comments below!

I’ll be doing a live webinar this Tuesday, April 14th and would love to see you there! Just scroll down to sign up.

This free live event will include:

  1. I love that silver is the color of a warm home. My mom always created such a warm and inviting home. I have tried to channel her energy my whole adult life. She had beautiful silver hair, of course. Now I will not only channel her, but the lovely silver energy as well. Thank you!!

      1. Will it be available online later. I am an essential worker and will not be able to attend.

Also my birthday was Thursday and I’m not a birthday person at all. I never had good birthdays as a kid and landmark birthday’s such as 21, 30 & 50 were ruined by other people. Isolation now solved that problem.
        Thanks for all you do!

        1. Hi Cindy! Yes, there will be a replay posted the following day. Thank you for all of your service and from one non-birthday person to another, happy birthday 🙂

    1. I am right there with you on the Birthday thing Dougall. To me you can celebrate being alive any or every day, each to their own. My house has lots of silver and gold I love the sparkle. Looking forward to Tuesday. Thank you Dougall.

  2. This is just what i needed. Loving my home is hard because we have three large dogs that make dust and dirt everywhere. I find myself getting depressed and meditating with silver will definitely help me clean my house. Thank you for sending ( as per usual) just what i needed to hear.

  3. I have several colors I use in my work as a Medical Intuitive. Silver is one of my favorites because it is so flexible – it can be warm or cold. It can travel through the smallest spaces. Everywhere it goes it cleans out toxins, infections and inflammation. Pretty cool!

  4. This totally resonates with me! My friend and I are extreme introverts, we always look up the restaurant beforehand, I like to look up the menu as well so I know what to order. And I LOVE organizing my place! Not to mention I love staying at home, I can’t stay outside too long, I need to feel the comfort and safety that only my place provides. I used to race home after school when all the other kids would prefer to hangout. Thank you for sharing this blog post Dougall!

  5. Dougal…Wonderful, RIGHT-ON post for these extended moments at home. On Tuesday before we connect, I’ll be polishing up my SILVER. (Silver snowflakes are gently covering my world as I write this) Glad you’re back home & Love to you and David!
