Man Plans God Laughs

Greetings from Okinawa! I have been working with clients in Japan for the last few years, and have been wanting to visit Okinawa for awhile. Something about it has been calling to me, and for this trip we decided to create a special workshop exploring the spiritual history of Okinawa. We contacted a lovely Okinawan shaman named Sasha who was happy to show us around and explain the energetic significance of this beautiful area.

Um, a typhoon was not part of the plan!

We planned meticulously for months, and I was so excited. The idea was for me to work in Tokyo for a week before we headed to Okinawa for the event. But as life often teaches us, plans don’t always go as expected. We flew into Okinawa a day early to get settled, only to find out that a Typhoon was scheduled to possibly hit the island on the first day of the event. A severe storm warning was issued, meaning that some flights were going to be canceled and participants would not be able to join us. Of course everyone’s safety was the most important thing to me, but I couldn’t help but be disappointed.

Our wonderful team had already arrived on the island, and many of our participants were locals who still wanted to attend, so we decided to make the best of the situation. The entire 2 day event was supposed to take place at various spiritual sites outdoors, with several directly on the beach. We decided to brainstorm ways to connect with our participants even though we could not visit these sites. After some spontaneous inquiries, we decided to host a formal dinner at the hotel where I was staying, and were able to rent an event space to hold the workshop. We called our participants, and many of them were happy to join us.

I am a consummate planner, and love to have an itinerary decided well in advance. However, some of my most rewarding experiences have taken place when I am able to let go, and this was a perfect example.

The evening turned out to be a wonderful experience! It was great to spend time with so many like-minded souls who wanted to connect. I could really feel their pride in sharing Okinawa with us, even though we were not able to visit the sites we had planned. Being able to spend this dinner together gave us all a chance to really bond and get to know each other.

The best part of all was, the Typhoon ended up not strengthening the way it was expected. As a result, we were able to conduct the second day of our workshop and visit many of the beautiful sacred sites here. It even gave us the added benefit of cooler weather due to the wind and clouds above.

Standing on a secluded beach with our bare feet in the water, our wonderful Okinawan Shaman Sasha explained to the workshop participants that this area was particularly high energy. It was the spot where shamans have come for centuries to pay homage and receive some unconditional love from the goddess Amamamikiyo. I absolutely loved learning about this, and felt so drawn to what Sasha was saying. The water was a beautiful turquoise, a color which I believe holds the energy of kindness and forgiveness. Why was I so attached to planning things a certain way? The Universe had a different plan, that was even better than I could have imagined. Closing my eyes and breathing in the warm sea air, it was a beautiful reminder to be kind and forgive, not only to others, but myself as well.

Sending you much love from Okinawa.

  1. Why is being kind to one’s self so hard? I like you prefer to plan and have also found that many of the best moments in my life have arisen through spontaneity rather than planning.

  2. Everything always turns out the way it is meant to. My six year old always says “I do my best, and let God do the rest.” Glad you are all safe, and still had an energetic uplifting time!
Enjoy the rest of your trip!

  3. In Love Without End by Glenna Green, a profound teaching was shared (to paraphrase): “A storm is Nature’s way of cleansing an area, and will rarely do any damage when loved. Go to what feels like the source of the storm and love it. That’s all one needs to do.”
Many Light Workers are now using this highly effective technique, and have experienced the truth of this teaching. Blessings to all as we collectively experience the many changes occurring now.

  4. A beautiful story to keep the courage of trust alive. What a quality empowering experience. This sure shows essential connecting with heart. It seems to be what you teach — to plan but stay in the moment — and to be vulnerable. Glad to hear Okinawa openly received your loving energy — both your energies as it was David’s birthday celebration too:) Wow from calamity to true success!
