We Live In Interesting Times

“May you live in interesting times.”

The quote above is a translation of a traditional Chinese saying. And while it may come off as a blessing, this expression is often used ironically.

The suggestion is that while an uneventful life may seem uninteresting or boring, it is much more peaceful than interesting times when we are faced with challenges and difficulties.

You only need to watch the news for a few minutes to know that we live in very interesting times. With virtually unlimited access to information and potential for human connection, it is astonishing that there is so much misunderstanding and anger as well.

With so much going on these days, it can be very challenging to manage our emotions. We must stay “open” enough to see when a situation needs to be addressed, but not so open that we walk the planet feeling vulnerable at all times. Watching the news is a perfect example of this.

[bctt tweet=”Staying informed is important because it gives us a chance to get involved and make a difference.” username=”dougallfraser”] But, consuming news on an endless loop is not healthy and can leave us feeling drained.

As a professional intuitive, I know all about the need to effectively manage my sensitivity. I work with many clients on a regular basis, and it is important to disconnect from each person after a session ends. I have learned that the healthiest balance of energy when I do my best to help each client, and then release their energy so I can move forward. It does not help me or my client if I carry their issues with me throughout the day. We do indeed live in interesting times.

If you find yourself feeling consumed by the news or stressful events, the best solution is to see if there is something you can do to help.

Whether it is getting involved in volunteering, donating to a charity, or being politically/socially active, do what you can. But then make sure you are managing your own personal sensitivity by disconnecting from it. Sending you lots of love today.
